SCHILD, Gimmeldingen | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The Schild vineyard is located on a massive limestone cliff between the upper and lower Biengarten in Gimmeldingen. The vineyard is terraced, steep and clearly demarcated by a ten metre high embankment and the road between Gimmeldingen and Königsbach. As the only terraced vineyard in the middle of the Biengarten, it is recognisable from afar as something very special. Its history and geological uniqueness make it one of the most prominent sites in Gimmeldingen. The soil consists of terra fusco, i.e. tertiary limestone marl interspersed with some loam and clay. This deep limestone provides optimum conditions for Pinot Noir. Walls store heat, the steep orientation protects against wind and favours complete ripeness. The wines therefore show a lot of pressure, ripeness and chalky elegance.
