The exposition directly toward the south guarantees Riesling abundant hours of sunshine. The surface of the Rhine River serves as a source of warmth and inhibits frost. The soil of this small 1.5-hectare parcel is weathered Devon slate with a reddish hue due to high iron content.
History: The Roman military camp Bodobrica was built in Boppard in the 4th century. Because wine belonged to the military’s standard nourishment, it is assumed that grapes were cultivated in Bopparder Hamm at that time. Written documents confirming wine cultivation in Boppard date 643.
