The partially terraced VDP.GROSSE LAGE® PULVERMÄCHER vineyard is located at 330 to 360 metres a.s.l. in a wind-protected side valley of the Rems Valley just below the prominent Yburg Castle ruin near Stetten. The pale fossil-rich Stuttgart sandstone and pebbly sandstone of this site warm easily. The vineyard terrace walls of this south-facing vineyard also collect the warmth of the day.
History: The Pulvermächer vineyard was first mentioned in documents dating 1650. The name loosely translates to “Pulveriser” and is a very old term for an explosives expert, which can be traced to the neighbouring quarry where rock blasting took place.
