APOTHEKE, Trittenheim | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® APOTHEKE is located across from the wine village Trittenheim on the right bank of the Mosel. The world-famous site is extremely steep and has a 40-60 percent gradient and southwest exposition. The soil is rocky and comprised of grey-blue slate, which stores warmth from the sun during the day and radiates it in the vineyard in the night. This provides the predominant Riesling grape variety plenty of time to fully ripen. The site covers xx hectares at 150 to 200 metres a.s.l. History: Contrary to what the name suggests, the site name does not refer to the healing properties of the wine. It its a variation of the name Abteiberg, which belonged to the Trier Abbey. Up until the year 1909, vintners had to use a ferry to get to the vineyard. The large rock on which the ferry was tied can still be seen in the centre of the vineyard’s base.
