HASSEL, Hattenheim | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The soil of the VDP.GROSSE LAGE® HASSEL excels with good water storage capacity. The basement is loess loam that provides vines with enough moisture even in very dry summers. In addition to this, the soil warms well. The vineyard extends between Hattenheim and Eltville to the west and slopes south toward the Rhine at a gentle 20 to 25 % gradient. The GL HASSEL lies at around 120 metres a.s.l. and encompasses 12 hectares. Information: Like the neighbouring GL NUSSBRUNNEN, the name of the GL HASSEL stems from hazelnut (Haselnuss). The vineyard was already referred to as “Hasele” in the 14th century and probably refers to hazel shrubs growing in the vicinity.
