STEIN-HARFE, Würzburg | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® STEIN-HARFE are among the best parcels of the famous Stein vineyard located above Würzburg. Its 8 hectares face southeast to southwest and are located in the centre of the Stein amphitheatre in its warmest and most sun-pampered position. The light reflected by the white shell limestone increases solar radiation. The soil is quite skeletal and contains various fine earths ranging from clayey loamy to humus. The GL STEIN-HARFE rises from 190 to 280 metres a.s.l. at a 25 to 45 percent gradient. The main grape varieties are Silvaner and Riesling. History: The Rotkreuzstiege path that separates this parcel from Würzburg leaves a vineyard in the shape of a “harfe” or “harp” in English. This image is further enhanced by vine rows reminiscent of strings on a harp. The “Harpfe” parcel was first mentioned in documents in the second half of the 17th century.
