BÜRGEL, Flörsheim-Dalsheim | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The soil of VDP.GROSSE LAGE® BÜRGEL is marked by the ochre yellow Terra Fusca limestone, but the parcel in question here is predominantly loess, marl and marine limestone. The BÜRGEL GL is only a small area of the eponymous vineyard located northwest of Flörsheim-Dalsheim. The VDP.GROSSE LAGE has a south to southeast aspect and lies between 150 and 180 metres a.s.l. The soil forms fissures as it dries, which aid aeration and drainage. The high lime content benefits the balance of acidity in the wines. The predominant variety cultivated is Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). History: The location was mentioned in 1286 with the name "retro montem" and 1358 with the name "uf dem berge". These layer names are a derivation to mountains.
