KLAUS, Johannisberg | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The southwest-facing VDP.GROSSE LAGE® KLAUS lies at 134 metres a.s.l. in Johannisberg in the Rheingau. The calcareous loess with gravel content has a good capacity for storing water and warmth. The GL KLAUS is also well protected from the wind. Riesling is cultivated here. History: This vineyard was first mentioned in documents dating 1248. The name stems from the former Benedictine Cloister Sankt Georgsklause. The cloister was dissolved in 1452 due to the claimed “immorality” of the nuns that dwelled there. The cloister’s estate continues to exist today.
