The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® GEHRN-KESSELRING is a 1.04 hectare parcel of the VDP.ERSTE LAGE® GEHRN in the Rheingau village Rauenthal. The site faces south and has a slope gradient of 30 %. It is located 180 metres a.s.l. Riesling is cultivated here on quartzite and slate with wind deposited loess. History: The vineyard “ufm Giren” was mentioned in documents dating 1688. The Old High German word “Ger” means “spear” and refers to the wedge shape of the site that is reminiscent of the tip of a spear.
