BRUNNENHÄUSCHEN, Westhofen | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The vineyards of the VDP.GROSSE LAGE® BRUNNENHÄUSCHEN are largely located in the former “Abtserde” vineyard, which was an independent vineyard until 1971 (New Wine Law) and is the best part of the Brunnenhäuschen single vineyard at the lower edge of the site. BRUNNENHÄUSCHEN GL borders directly on MORSTEIN GL. The site faces south. However, the climate is rather cool due to the westerly winds that blow over it, which leads to late ripening of the grapes and a long vegetation period. The soils are characterized by clay marl with limestone and limestone rocks in the subsoil, which can maintain a good water supply even in dry phases. The soil, known as “Terra Rossa”, is red – due to its high iron oxide content. Riesling and Pinot Noir are the main grape varieties grown in the BRUNNENHÄUSCHEN. History: The location was documented in 1721 by the name of "am brunnenhäuschen", which is based on a spring which is connected to a water reservoir.
