The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® KARTHÄUSERHOFBERG extends into a side valley of the Ruwer River a short distance from the mouth of the Moselle River. The rounded, convex slope has an approximately 55 % gradient. Forests to the east and above on the hilltop protect the vines in this south to south-southwest facing site. The 20-hectare vineyard has weathered Devon slate soils. Information: The GL KARTHÄUSERHOFBERG is a monopole vineyard of the VDP.Vintner Kartäuserhof. History: The vineyard was already classified in the top vineyard category in Mosel-Saar-Ruwer in 1868. It once belonged to the monks of Karthäuser who received the vineyard from Archbishop Baldwin of Luxembourg in 1335.
