OELSBERG, Oberwesel | VDP. GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® OELSBERG is an extremely steep site with up to 70 % gradient. It is located in Oberwesel in the Mittelrhein between 70 and 150 metres a.s.l. Dry stone walls brace the vineyard terraces. The weathered slate soil exhibits loess loam deposits, which make the soil unusually rich for the region. A rift that runs across Europe ends here and has also thrust Triassic Bunter sandstone to the surface in this site. The GL OELSBERG faces south to southeast directly above a bend in the Rhine River. The river flows directly towards the site and the sunshine reflected on the water’s surface contributes to a particularly warm microclimate. Riesling is cultivated here. Information: The “Oelsbergsteig”, a hiking path that belongs to the Rhine Castle Trail, leads through this vineyard.
