The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® NIES’CHEN is a knoll that extends toward the south and southwest to the edge of the wine village Kasel. The vineyard climbs from 195 to 260 metres a.s.l. at a slope of 40 to 57 %. The cool character of the Ruwer dominates the upper parcels of the GL NIES’CHEN, which are simultaneously exposed to cool winds and intense sunshine. The climate is warmer towards the foot of the hill, where vines benefit from the proximity to the moderating Moselle River. Blue slate and variegated slate determine the soils and are particularly well drained in the upper reaches. History: The name of the site is the diminutive form of the name Agnes, possibly referring to the Abbess Agnes of the Cloister St. Irminen.
