SCHÖNHELL, Hallgarten | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®




The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® SCHÖNHELL is located in Hallgarten in the Rheingau at 200 metres a.s.l. The 10 to 20 % slope faces south-southwest toward the Rhine River. Riesling is cultivated here on fertile soils with good available water capacity. The soils are comprised of loess loam, clay and sandy gravel. The forest of the Hallgarten Zange Mountain to the north shields the GL SCHÖNHELL from cold weather. History: The name of the GL SCHÖNHELL stems from the 14th century. It means “schöne Halde”, which translates to “beautiful slope”.
