The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® ST. JOST is located at 170 to 200 metres a.s.l. above Bacharach-Steeg in the Mittelrhein. The 60% slope drops south toward Münzbach. Riesling is cultivated here and enjoys optimal solar radiation. The Devon slate that dominates here is covered with a layer of wind deposited sand that stems from volcanic eruptions in the Neuwied Basin more than 10,000 years ago.
History: The GL ST. JOST is named after Saint Jodocus (Judoc), who was known as a pilgrim and a hermit. A chapel was dedicated to him that stood between Bacharach and Steeg until the Reformation.
