DOMPROBST, Graach | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®




The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® DOMPROBST is located above the village Graach on the Mosel River. This steep vineyard rises from 110 to260 metres above sea level at a 45 to 70 percent slope. The soils ofthis southwest to south-southwest facing GL are grey-blue Devonianslate with a share of clay that lends the subsoil good water storagecapacity. The site is well protected from the wind and can get hot in the summer months. Many of the vines in the VDP.GROSSELAGE® DOMPROBST are very old and ungrafted, trained in the oldtraditional method on individual stakes and up to a 100 years old. History: In the 18th century, vintners of this vineyard were requiredto pay a tithe to the Trier cathedral provost in the form of 10 percentof their harvest. A document from 1731 appraises the value of thevineyard at 200 Florin (gold coin).
