The VDP.GROSSEN LAGE® ECK is a south and southeast facing slope that rises from 150 to 260 metres a.s.l. in a very narrow section of the Ahr Valley. The 40 to 60 percent gradient exposes the site to plenty of sunshine throughout the day. The soil of dark greywacke and weathered slate debris has a high share of rock and stores the sun’s warmth, radiating it into the vines in the night like natural floor heating. The summer microclimate of the GL ECK is nearly Mediterranean. Predominantly Riesling and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) grow here.
