ECK, Altenahr | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® ECK is a south and southeast facing slope that rises from 150 to 260 metres a.s.l. in a very narrow section of the Ahr Valley. The 40 to 60 percent gradient exposes the site to plenty of sunshine throughout the day. The soil of dark greywacke and weathered slate debris has a high share of rock and stores the sun’s warmth, radiating it into the vines in the night like natural floor heating. The summer microclimate of the VDP.GROSSE LAGE® ECK is nearly mediterranean. Predominantly Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) and Riesling grow here.
