REICHESTAL, Hochheim | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The name of the VDP.GROSSE LAGE® REICHESTAL refers to the fertile soil of a valley floor site. The vineyard is situated in Hochheim in Rheingau near the Main River shortly before it empties into the Rhine. A warm microclimate forms here. The GL REICHESTAL has a slope gradient of 30 % and lies at approximately 100 metres a.s.l. Loess loam dominates the soil, which is sandy, gravelly and found over a basement of calcareous marl. Because the soils are quite loose, the vines can root deeply and find abundant minerals and nutrients. The soils have good moisture availability and warm quickly permitting Riesling to flower early ripen long into the autumn.
