VDP: What is special about your winery?
Rainer Müller: The winery was built in 1692 and has been family-owned for four generations. The sites from Volkach, Sommerach and Escherndorf, which are characterised by shell limestone, form the basis for our wines, which are partly vinified in the large wooden barrel cellar.
VDP: What is your winery philosophy?
Christian Müller: Living for and with wine. Being connected to nature. Preserving what is beautiful and daring to try something new. To realise something together with joy. With this vision in mind, we would like to keep the winery going.
VDP: What style of wine are you aiming for?
Christian Müller: Dry, straightforward wines that are authentic to their origins and show their character and individual personality.
VDP: Which of your wines would you recommend to someone who doesn't know your winery yet?
Rainer Müller: The Volkacher Silvaner. It's our liquid business card, in a way.
VDP: Which wine are you particularly proud of?
Christian Müller: Our Silvaner from Wilm. An ancient vineyard in Sommerach, which my grandfather planted and which survived the land consolidation.
VDP:Why should people still visit your winery?
Rainer Müller: Because we always have an open door!
VDP: Do you have role models?
Christian Müller: Many fellow winemakers who have a passion and authenticity for their craft. But above all, my apprenticeship years at the VDP.Winery Wagner-Stempel and Philipp Wittmann in Rheinhessen were very formative.
VDP: What are your next goals?
Christian Müller: To continue to focus on the care of our vines in order to preserve the old sites and vineyards for future generations.
