TAFELSTEIN, Dienheim | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® TAFELSTEIN is located on the slope overlooking the Rhine River south of Oppenheim. The vineyards face east to southeast and have a moderate slope of 10 percent. The TAFELSTEIN GL borders the upper, somewhat steeper single-vineyard Tafelstein parcels. Riesling and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) grow on deep loess over loam and calcareous marlstone. The soils have good water storage capacity. History: The name stems from “Tafelgut”, the wineries that served as a source of income for the aristocracy.
