The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® JUNGFER is located in a gentle swale east of the village Hallgarten. Wind-protected and facing southeast to southwest, the pebbly-sandy quartzite soil collects the warmth of the day and releases it into the vines at night, thus prolonging the daily ripening period. With only a 10 % slope, the vineyard is fairly flat. It encompasses 6.5 hectares and lies at around 200 metres a.s.l.
History: The Cistercian monks that settled in the Rheingau probably named this site after the Holy Virgin (Jungfrau) Mary.
