The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® FRAUENBERG slopes southeast toward Niederflörsheim at a gradient at 40 percent. The vineyard lies between 190 and 200 metres a.s.l. The soils include loess, marl, limestone and stony and clayey loam. A unique microclimate is created by the interchange between the warm southeast exposition and the cool winds, which benefit a long ripening period. The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® is situated in the upper, steeper parcels of the otherwise relatively flat Frauenberg vineyard.
History: The site was documented 1290 under the name “an frauwenhalten”. The vineyard was originally owned by a nuns’ convent.
