KALKBERG, Duttweiler | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSEN LAGE® KALKBERG gets its name from its soil: “Kalk” is “limestone”, while “berg” is “mountain”. The pararendzina soil comprised of loess over loose limestone marl is highly calcareous and has excellent available water capacity. This makes it ideal for Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), which is the main variety planted. The 5 percent incline makes it a flat site and it is located on the south side of a loess bank (its ridge follows west to east and little stream glens border each side). The site is approximately 1.5. hectares in size and lies between 125 and 130 metres a.s.l.
