PFARRWINGERT, Dernau | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® PFARRWINGERT is a convex site that faces southeast, south and southwest making it well protected from winds in the lower reaches. The site rises from 125 to 220 metres a.sl. directly behind the city Dernau. The soils are grainy greywacke and weathered slate with a share of argillaceous slate, which are easily warmed and make the PFARRWINGERT GL one of the hottest vineyards in the Ahr. The PFARRWINGERT GL is 13.8 hectares and with 15 to 60 percent slope, it is very steep in the most elevated section. History: “Pfarr” means “parish” and “Wingert” is an old name for vineyard. The catholic parish church in Dernau once owned this vineyard and continues to own a few parcels here.
