ROSENTHAL, Ahrweiler | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The prime vineyard site of Ahrweiler, the VDP.GROSSE LAGE® ROSENTHAL, rises above the roofs of the old town. Facing south and strikingly braced with high retaining walls, the 45 % slope gradient rises from 230 to 160 metres a.s.l. Remains of an old viaduct lend the vineyard a wild-romantic appearance. Greywacke and sandy loess-loam comprise the soil. History: The origin of the name is uncertain, but could possibly indicate that roses were also planted here in the past.
