ABTSBERG, Mertesdorf | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®




The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® ABTSBERG lies at the entrance to a side valley of the Ruwer. It turns from its southeast exposition above the Ruwer into a due south exposition in the side valley. The very steep 50-70 percent gradient rises from 150 to 250 metres a.s.l. and is comprised of blue Devon slate. The GL ABTSBERG is 14 hectares in size and planted with Riesling. VDP.vintner: Maximin Grünhaus (monopole site). History: The Abtsberg was documented as a property of the Sankt Maximin Abbey in 966. Wine was probably grown here in the 4th century.
