The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® HOHENMORGEN is situated on a 140 metre elevated plateau in a protected amphitheatre in the foothills of the Haardt hills on the edge of Deidesheim. Typical weathered Bunter sandstone and limestone rubble, loam and sand comprise the soils. The top oil is rather rocky and warms quickly. The calcareous content of the soil provides good water storage capacity. The site is around 3 hectares in size and has a 4 – 12 % incline that faces southeast. It is bordered to the east with a Bunter sandstone wall that stores warmth.
History: The name stems from the old measurement of area called a “morgen” as well as its exposed position on a plateau. It was first mentioned in 1828 when it was classified as one of the best sites in Deidesheim.
