VDP. wine auction with annual record 2024 for top wines

Nahe / BAD KREUZNACH

With a record result of 1.5 million euros net for German VDP top wines, the VDP wine auction on the Nahe with the guest regions Ahr, Rheinhessen and Pfalz ended the 3 wine auctions of the VDP, after Mosel and Rheingau.

The VDP Nahe returned on Saturday, November 9, 2024 to emotional wine moments in the ambience of the historic museum of the Römerhalle for the VDP wine auction on the Nahe with the regions Ahr, Rheinhessen and Pfalz.

In the morning, wine enthusiasts had the opportunity to get an idea of the coveted auction wines at the pre-tasting from 9 to 11 a.m. and to speak personally with the winegrowers who presented their exclusive auction wines. There was also the opportunity to place bids with one of the 6 commission agents present.

After a tasty picnic basket from Markus Buchholz's Kaiserhof restaurant, the charming presenter Caro Maurer (Master of Wine) welcomed 150 guests to the wet auction in the Römerhalle museum and viewers from all over the world who followed the livestream in the afternoon. This was made possible by the modern technology of Media4Rent with the support of Axel Nixdorf.  After the welcoming address by VDP.Nahe Chairman Frank Schönleber to the VDP.wine auction on the Nahe with eight VDP.wineries from the host regions of Ahr, Pfalz and Rheinhessen, VDP Honorary President Michael Prinz zu Salm-Salm, as honorary auctioneer, complemented the entertaining and witty auction with professional bids.
You can watch the livestream here
Master of Wine, Caro Maurer, was very open and charming as the head of the auction. She explained the auction to all those present and the guests in front of the livestream.
Some of these guests in front of the screens sent greetings in advance so that the guests in Bad Kreuznach would also know that these wines are highly sought after internationally. In front of the screens was the auction party in Berlin at the Freundschaft, Rupert and Giacomo Bilz in Guatemala, Chanan Wisse in Amsterdam, Riesling Concept in Düsseldorf, London and New York, to name but a few.

Each of the 15 top winegrowers was able to prepare for their bid in a relaxed conversation before the auctioneer, Prince Michael zu Salm-Salm, took his hammer in his hand and took over his office perfectly in his well-known manner, guiding the guests, commissioners and winegrowers in a very informative manner.

The guests in the hall, who came not only from the Nahe region, but from all over Germany, Austria, London and New York, received a lot of information from the winegrowers, but also a lot of background knowledge from the personality of Michael Prince of Salm-Salm, who was able to offer a lot during the bidding and the calculation of the commission agents.

A highly interested audience watched as 5475 bottles were auctioned off in 32 lots. The results ranged from €28 to €7000, with an average price of €317.75 per 0.75-liter bottle of wine. This meant that both the passionate wine connoisseur and the financially strong wine collector were able to find the right wine for their cellar.
