VDP: What is so special about your winery?
Fred Prinz: We are a young winery. It all started as a hobby in 1991. By 2004, we already had 6 hectares of vineyard. Today we are a family winery and member of the VDP with 11.5 hectares. We work according to biodynamic principles.
VDP: What is your winery philosophy?
Fred Prinz: Producing wine with passion and respect for nature.

VDP: For what wine style do you strive?
Fred Prinz: Our wines are characterized by their minerality, elegance, finesse and ageing ability and they reflect their origins perfectly.
VDP: Do you have a favourite grape variety?
Fred Prinz: Two: Riesling and Pinot Noir.
VDP: Which of your wines would you recommend to someone who does not yet know your winery – as an introduction, so to speak?
Fred Prinz: Our Gutsriesling. It is our calling card.

“100 POINTS FROM JAMES SUCKLING - I NEVER THOUGHT I’D GET THAT DREAM SCORE!”
VDP: Of which wine are you particularly proud?
Fred Prinz: Of our 2015 VDP.GROSSE LAGE® JUNGFER Riesling Auslese gold capsule, which received 100 points from James Suckling! I never thought I’d get that dream score for one of my wines.

VDP: Do you have any role models?
Fred Prinz: Bernhard Breuer is my winegrowing role model. He was way ahead of his time.
VDP: What are your next goals?
Fred Prinz: Slowly integrating the next generation into the winery.

VDP: Why should people visit your winery?
Fred Prinz: My suggestion is to take a walk through the Hendelberg and take our Gutsriesling or a bottle of Hallgartener Hendelberg with you, look for a bench to sit and enjoy the view over the Rheingau.
