VDP: What is so special about your winery?
Reiner Flick: We have two monopole vineyards: Wickerer Nonnberg, first mentioned in documents dating 1281 and owned by the church until 1803, and Königen Victoriaberg in Hochheim. The English royal family has sourced wines from this vineyard since 1850. Our winery is located in an old mill, originally built by the Counts of Eppstein and first documented on 15 August 1318. In our large, groin-vaulted cellar stores our barrels, which are made from our own oak. Our winery is also special beyond is historic merits. The open view into nature, the large orchards behind the house and our park-like garden make the place true idyllic. In summer, this is a venue for open-air concerts with music ranging from classical to rock. You are also warmly welcomed to celebrate with us privately or with your company.
VDP: What is your winery philosophy?
Reiner Flick: To pass what our fathers took over to future generations!
VDP: For what wine style do you strive?
Reiner Flick: Riesling with depth and long ageing potential.
VDP: Which of your wines would you recommend to someone who does not yet know your winery – as an introduction, so to speak?
Reiner Flick: Our “F. vini et vita Gutsriesling” dry.
VDP: Of which wine are you particularly proud?
Reiner Flick: Of the Nonnberg Riesling! It never disappoints us.
VDP: Why did you become a vintner?
Reiner Flick: It is simply the work in one of the last original productions in Germany. And the versatility is fascinating.
VDP: Do you have role models?
Reiner Flick: My grandfather.
VDP: What are your next goals?
Reiner Flick: To strengthen what has been achieved and prepare the company for the next generation.
VDP: Why should people visit your winery?
Reiner Flick: As mentioned, the location is very idyllic. For those who like it more bustling, Frankfurt, Mainz or Wiesbaden are in close proximity.
