VDP: What is so special about your winery?

Günther Jauch: Since its foundation in 1805, we have been managing the estate in our family, now in the 7th generation. Our manor house is listed and the park is decorated with ancient exotic trees from all over the world in the style of the English Garden. As for our vineyards: all our grapes grow on extremely steep slopes!

VDP:What is your winery philosophy?

Günther Jauch: The grape decides what it becomes. No great wine can be produced against nature and so all our care is devoted to the preservation and ecological balance of our vineyards.

VDP: What wine style do you aim for?

Günther Jauch: Our whole passion is Riesling. We cultivate 100 percent of this grape variety. The grapes grow exclusively in VDP.GROSSEN LAGEN® on the Saar. The wines are all fermented spontaneously with their own yeasts. We give them the time they need.

"OUR WINERY IS OPEN TO EVERYONE, AND THE MAGNIFICENT PARK IS A TRUE OASIS, ESPECIALLY IN SUMMER."

VDP: Which of your wines would you recommend to someone who does not yet know your winery - as an introduction, so to speak?

Günther Jauch: Our dry VDP.GUTSRIESLING "MAX", which is also an ideal food companion.

VDP: Which wine are you particularly proud of?

Günther Jauch: To our cabinets! With its fine residual sweetness and at the same time discreet acidity, it is a fascinating taste experience on the palate. In addition, the low alcohol content, more fun a wine can hardly make!

VDP: Why did you become a vintner?

Thea Jauch: The winery comes from our family and I didn't want to break off this tradition. So it was a matter of course for me to take over the winery almost ten years ago.

VDP: What are your next goals?

Günther Jauch: Our ambition concerns our entire collection. From VDP.GUTSWEIN to VDP.ORTSWEIN to our VDP.GROSSEN GEWÄCHSEN® and our sweet Prädikatswein, we want to make the fascinating diversity of the Riesling grape experienceable.

VDP: How do you combine tradition and innovation?

Günther Jauch: Tradition and innovation are no contradiction for us. On the one hand, we concentrate on the classic fine fruity to noble sweet Prädikate, which founded the reputation of the Saar wines, in the Ausbautilistik. On the other hand, our passion is the development of great dry wines, which have only recently gained their national and international reputation. Both have one thing in common: the unadulterated, very reduced finish, without fining, slow and without superfluous use of technology.

VDP: Why should I still visit your winery?

Günther Jauch: As Germany's oldest city, Trier is practically on our doorstep. Our winery is open to everyone and the magnificent park is a true oasis, especially in summer. You can taste our wines from Monday to Friday. Saturdays between May and October.
