WELCOME TO THE VDP!

The VDP is delighted to welcome two new members as of January 1st 2025:

The year 2025 begins with excellent news: The Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP) is delighted to welcome two new members to its ranks! With the Sektgut Reinecker from Baden and the Weingut Dr. Hermann from Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, the VDP now proudly counts 202 members, collectively representing the peak of German winegrowing.

Welcoming new members is far from a given. It requires a rigorous review process that ensures the highest quality and a strong commitment to sustainable and origin-focused viticulture. Both estates have impressively passed this process, enriching the VDP with their expertise and passion.

Two new top-tier estates
in the Markgräflerland and the Mosel

We are delighted to welcome the Sektgut Reinecker, known for its excellent sparkling wines and artisanal precision, and the Weingut Dr. Hermann, renowned for its elegant steep-slope Rieslings, to our community. Together, we take another step towards excellence – in the glass, in the vineyards, and in dialogue with the world.

Bubbling Excellence:
Sektgut Reinecker enriches VDP.Baden

The Sektgut Reinecker, located in the picturesque town of Auggen in the Markgräflerland, has been synonymous with outstanding sparkling wines since 1987. These wines are crafted exclusively using the traditional bottle fermentation method.

The Reinecker family, deeply rooted in the Markgräflerland, cultivates vineyards in renowned sites such as AuggenFeuerbachIstein, and Badenweiler. These diverse terroirs impart a distinctive character and quality to the base wines used for their sparkling creations. The estate’s portfolio comprises five exquisite sparkling wines, produced with precision and passion, and frequently celebrated in the wine press.

In addition to their own sparkling wines, the Reinecker Sektkellerei also offers contract sparkling wine production for prominent wineries in the region, making it one of the leading sparkling wine producers in Baden. As a member of the Verband Traditioneller Sektmacher, the Sektgut sets national standards in sparkling wine production.

The next generation, represented by Katja and Steffen Reinecker, leads the estate alongside their parents, Christina and Herbert, ensuring its future. Their commitment to sustainable viticulture and uncompromising quality is reflected in every product.

By welcoming the Sektgut Reinecker into the VDP.Baden, the association not only gains technical expertise but also innovative strength in the field of sparkling wine production. Through adherence to the VDP.SEKT.STATUT, which defines the highest standards of production, the Reinecker family will continue to enhance the quality and reputation of VDP sparkling wines. The members of the VDP.Baden look forward to collaborating with this new member, whose contributions will further advance the quality-driven viticulture in the region. Joachim Heger, Chairman of VDP.Baden, emphasizes: "We are delighted to welcome Sektgut Reinecker, an estate distinguished by its excellent reputation, expertise, and charming friendliness, which will enrich the VDP.Baden community."

Mosel Rieslings at the Highest Level:
Weingut Dr. Hermann

The Weingut Dr. Hermann, located in Erden on the Mosel, boasts a centuries-old winemaking tradition. Founded in 1967 by Dr. Hermann following the division of the renowned Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben estate in Ürzig, it is now managed by Christian and Julia Hermann. The winery focuses on cultivating Riesling on the steep slate slopes of the Mosel, particularly in the famous sites of Erdener PrälatÜrziger Würzgarten, and Erdener Treppchen.

These exceptional vineyards are among the most historic winegrowing sites in the world, endowing the wines with their unique minerality and finesse. The vineyards are farmed sustainably and with great care, with many vines being ungrafted and up to 100 years old. In the cellar, Christian Hermann employs traditional techniques such as spontaneous fermentation and extended aging on the lees to fully develop the grapes’ aromatic potential.

Dr. Carl von Schubert, Chairman of VDP.Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, emphasizes: “We are delighted to welcome Weingut Dr. Hermann, a winery whose wines we have enjoyed with increasing pleasure for many years and whose refined, classic-elegant Riesling style is a tremendous enrichment for the GROSSER RING!”

The winery’s noble sweet wines are particularly noteworthy, regularly ranking among the top products of the Mosel. With their complex aromas, perfect sweetness-acidity balance, and impressive length, they captivate wine enthusiasts worldwide. Joining the VDP underscores the estate’s commitment to preserving and advancing the tradition and quality of German winemaking.

The VDP.Membership opens new opportunities for exchange with other top wineries. The wine world can look forward to future creations from Weingut Dr. Hermann, which will continue to showcase the immense potential of the Mosel’s vineyards.
