VDP: What is so special about your winery?
Hans-Peter Wöhrwag: You won’t find us in the countryside, but close to the city of Stuttgart. We also cultivate our monopole vineyard, the VDP.GROSSE LAGE® HERZOGENBERG here in Untertürkheim. Our door is open to everyone. Our beautiful inner courtyard is the ideal place for an extensive wine tasting in the warmer months of the year!
VDP: What is your winery philosophy?
Hans-Peter Wöhrwag: A deep sip from the Swabian soul.
VDP: For what wine style do you aim?
Hans-Peter Wöhrwag: Elegant, slender wines that are fun and don’t need to be fussed about.
VDP: Do you have a favourite grape variety?
Hans-Peter Wöhrwag: Even two: Riesling and Pinot Noir.
"WE OFFER ELEGANT, SLENDER WINES THAT ARE FUN TO DRINK AND DON’T NEED TO BE FUSSED ABOUT."
VDP: Which of your wines would you recommend to someone who doesn’t yet know your winery – as an introduction, so to speak?
Hans-Peter Wöhrwag: Our VDP.GUTSWEIN Riesling gold capsule.
VDP: Of which wine are you particularly proud?
Hans-Peter Wöhrwag: Of our VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS® HERZOGENBERG Pinot Noir.
VDP: Why did you become a vintner?
Hans-Peter Wöhrwag: Because wine is the second most beautiful topic in the world. It brings laughter and unforgettable moments.
VDP: Do you have role models?
Hans-Peter Wöhrwag: Robert Mondavi.
VDP: What are your next goals?
Hans-Peter Wöhrwag: I want to cross the Alps by bicycle!
VDP: How do you combine tradition and innovation?
Hans-Peter Wöhrwag: By keeping it simple.
VDP: Do you stick to traditions, if so, which ones?
Hans-Peter Wöhrwag: Yes, to the good ones. Lentils with spaetzle, for example.
