VDP: What is so special about your winery?

Christian Ebert: The Chateau-like location above the vineyards in the middle of rounded off vineyards. 90% of them are classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE®.

SCHLOSS SAARSTEIN
Riesling Spätlese
VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

VDP: What is your winery philosophy?

Christian Ebert: We want to emphasize and work out the vineyard and terroir typicality of our mountain. The Saarstein and me: that simply results in an inseparable symbiosis. So to speak, the motto "A man and his mountain" floats above everything. Even if behind our wines there is of course a fantastic team, without which nothing would work at all. The mountain shapes us. And we shape the mountain.

"I WAS TEN YEARS OLD WHEN I RODE THE CATERPILLAR ON THE STEEP SLOPES.“

VDP: What wine style do you strive for and do you have a favourite grape variety?

Christian Ebert: Fruity, elegant, light, you can only do that with Riesling.

VDP: Which of your wines would you recommend to someone who doesn't yet know your winery - as an introduction, so to speak?

Christian Ebert: A finely bitter cabinet of VDP.GUTSWEIN.

VDP: Which wine are you particularly proud of?

Christian Ebert: To the 2016 SCHLOSS SAARSTEIN Riesling Spätlese, VDP.GROSSE LAGE®.

VDP: Why did you become a vintner?

Christian Ebert: I can do nothing but wine :-) As a ten-year-old I was already riding the caterpillar on the steep slopes, what an experience and adventure!

VDP: Do you have any role models?

Christian Ebert: Yes, my father.

VDP: What are your next goals?

Christian Ebert: We want to expand the company area.

VDP: How do you combine tradition and innovation?

Christian Ebert: In production we work traditionally and with craftsmanship. When it comes to marketing, we rely on modern methods.

VDP: Why should I still visit your winery?

Christian Ebert: Treat yourself to a glass or a bottle of wine on our spacious panoramic terrace! The view over the Saartal and the vineyards is really phenomenal.
