With the 2009 vintage we vinified for the first time a single parcel at the top of the Morstein separately. Only in special vintages we have LA BORNE Alte Reben Riesling.

LA BORNE

"Laborn" is what the "old Westhofener" used to call the upper vines in the MORSTEIN vineyard. This name was probably coined by the French occupying forces in the nineteenth century. Today we harvest LA BORNE in a small plot of land in the upper Morstein, planted with very old vines.

THE SOIL

One of our oldest vineyards in the upper Morstein benefited especially from its altitude. From very small berries, after a late harvest, a highly complex, fruit-intensive and at the same time mineral Riesling emerged. Here one finds heavy clay marl soils with limestone deposits in the upper layer. The subsoil is dominated by water-bearing limestone rock layers, which ensure an optimal supply of nutrients and minerals, even during longer dry periods.
