VDP:What is special about your winery?

Christian Hermann: One special feature of our winery is our portfolio of vineyard sites. We have over 90% of our vineyards on steep slopes. Viticulture has been a tradition in our family for several centuries and since 2023 we have been delighted to welcome our guests to our newly built vinotheque.

VDP:What is your winery philosophy?

Christian Hermann: Terroir-driven wines that reflect their origins, in harmony with nature. The work in the vineyard is crucial for us, because only a good grape can produce a good wine.

VDP:What style of wine do you strive for? Do you have a favorite grape variety?

Christian Hermann: The great thing about Riesling is being able to develop all styles. Light, delicate wines with site typicity and moderate alcohol content. Our aim here is to bring out the best and typical characteristics of the different vineyards. With the 2020 vintage, we have dared to try Pinot Noir for the first time and find that it is the perfect red counterpart to Riesling and fits the Moselle perfectly in terms of character.

VDP:Which of your wines would you recommend to someone who doesn't yet know your winery - as an introduction, so to speak?

Christian Hermann: One of our Kabinett wines, which can best show the lightness, complexity and typicality of the vineyard. Whether as a food accompaniment or solo - our Kabinett wines are suitable for every occasion.

VDP:Why did you become a winegrower?

Christian Hermann: Even as a young boy, I was always happy to be involved - whether in the vineyard or the cellar, viticulture has always fascinated me and so my passion developed early on.

VDP:Do you have any role models?

Christian Hermann: I have many role models - but I was most influenced by Karl Erbes and Stefan Erbes, with whom I was able to complete my training, and by my father. Today, I am very happy that he made it possible for me to go my own way and develop my own style.

VDP:How do you combine tradition and innovation? Do you uphold traditions, and if so, which ones?

Christian Hermann: We are sticking to the tradition of cultivating our vines, some of which were planted over 130 years ago, and continuing to grow wine on steep slopes.

VDP:Why should people still visit your winery?
