GROSSER RING VDP.Mosel-Saar-Ruwer e.V. sets new standard for international Riesling auctions

The members of GROSSER RING VDP.Mosel-Saar-Ruwer have decided on a strategic realignment of their traditional, internationally renowned auctions.
(The VDP.Mosel-Saar-Ruwer auction, one of the most traditional and important auctions in the international wine world, is undergoing a strategic realignment with increased global appeal.)

The focus is on outstanding Riesling wines, which are among the most sought-after and longest-lasting wines in the world and are available exclusively through this historic auction.

The next Riesling auction of VDP.PRÄDIKATSWEIN wines and VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS® wines from the 2025 vintage will take place on Sunday, May 9th 2027.

The auction is complemented by a selection of rare mature vintages. These exceptional wines are available exclusively through the auction and represent the highest quality levels of the Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer regions. The focus is on Riesling wines that thrive on the extremely steep slopes of this unique cultural landscape. The combination of slate terroir, cool continental climate, and centuries-old winemaking expertise produces wines of incomparable precision, longevity, and expressiveness—the qualities for which Mosel Riesling wines are renowned worldwide.

As in previous years, the auction will be conducted by Edwin Vos, a renowned and experienced wine auctioneer from Christie's Auctioneers, London.

International wine collectors and enthusiasts, merchants, importers, and restaurateurs are expected to attend. The aim of the reorientation is to give international private wine connoisseurs more opportunities to bid on these wines and, at the same time, to bring to life the unique cultural landscape of the Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer as the home of great Riesling wines.

The GROSSER RING VDP.Mosel-Saar-Ruwer e.V., founded in 1908, continues an auction tradition whose origins date back to the 1850s and 1860s. As early as the end of the 19th century, individual wine barrels achieved internationally renowned top prices at these auctions, making Mosel wines among the most expensive in the world at times and positioning them well above the price level of many Bordeaux wines at the time. For many of the 31 member wineries, this historically significant auction remains the exclusive marketing channel for their best wines – a clear commitment to quality, origin, and exclusivity.
