BURGWEG, Bodenheim | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® BURGWEG is situated north of Bodenheim at an altitude of 100 metres a.s.l. and has an east to southeast aspect. Ice age loess and sandy and clayey loam comprise the soils in which predominantly Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) grows. This is also due to the fact that small protective swales have formed at the foot of the slope that are advantageous for Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). The slope gradient ranges 20 percent. The VDP.GROSSE LAGE BURGWEG is a small parcel in the upper centre of the Burgweg vineyard. History: The first documented mention of the site stems from the year 1364 where it was called “Uf dem Burgwege“. It is likely that this was a way for writing “on the mountain paths”.
