The slope of the VDP.GROSSE LAGE® LECKERBERG turns from the east towards the south. With up to 292 metres a.s.l., it is among the most highly elevated sites in Rheinhessen. It drops down to 185 metres at slop gradients between 5 and 30 percent. The slope is terraced and offers a view to the Upper Rhine Plain. The soils are comprised of calcareous loam, loess, and marl. Riesling and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) are the predominant varieties in the LECKERBERG GL. History: The site was first officially documented with the name “im Leckerberg” in the year 1562. The name could stem from the Lecksteine (licking stones) that were hung outdoors for the game in this area.
