Hattenheimer Mannberg | VDP.ERSTE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® MANNBERG belongs to the Rheingau village Hattenheim and spreads toward Erbach. The vineyard slope faces south, has a 30 % gradient and lies at around 90 metres a.s.l. The soil is deep and dominated by calcareous loess loam. Underground aquifers provide this Riesling vineyard with sufficient moisture. The name is a reference to the size of the vineyard, which could be worked by one man in one day. History: This vineyard was bequeathed to the fiefdom of Johann Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern in the year 1464 and was at that time known as “Mannwerk”. He received it in exchange for his service as chancellor to the Duke of Palatinate-Zweibücken.
