KRÄUTERBERG, Walporzheim | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The vineyard terraces that climb the steep slope are a significant feature of the VDP.GROSSE LAGE® KRÄUERBERG northeast of Walporzheim. This vineyard surrounds the GL GÄRKAMMER, which is known for its warm climate. Its protected position in the valley and the intensity of the sun in a steep south facing aspect create a nearly Mediterranean microclimate. The slope climbs to 150 metres a.s.l. at a 50 % gradient. The soils are greywacke, sandy loam and slate. History: The name possibly stems from Roman times when not only wine, but also herbs (Kräuter) were cultivated here.
