Gimmeldinger Mandelgarten | VDP.ERSTE LAGE ®

The VDP.ERSTE LAGE® Gimmeldinger Mandelgarten located on a south to southeast-facing foothill of the Haardt hills rises from 150 to 180 metres at a 7 to 18 % slope. Typical regional Bunter sandstone rubble distinguishes the soils, which are covered with a layer of loess. The good water storage capacity in the vineyard is further enhanced by an aquifer that runs through a layer of clay two metres below the surface. The elevated EL Gimmeldinger Mandelgarten enjoys very good solar radiation. At the same time, cool katabatic winds from the Palatine forest provide a refreshing element. History: The name stems from almond (Mandel) trees that presumably once grew in this site.
