The VDP.ERSTE LAGE® Hochheimer Kirchenstück is an elongated terrace that slopes from the southern border of the village of Hochheim down to the Main River. The southern exposition means that it enjoys the warmth of the sun all day long. The site is composed of medium-heavy loess loam and clay marl over deep subsoil, with a good water supply. The city of Hochheim protects the 8-hectare vineyard from kabatic winds, while the Taunus Mountains protect the vineyards from heavy rainfall and inclement weather. The EL slopes moderately at a 30 percent gradient from 100 to 120 meters of elevation. Hochheim’s famous St. Peter and Paul parish church overlooks the EL Kirchenstück from its west side. The vineyard was likely named for this church as the German word for church is Kirche.
