HERRENBERG, Ungstein | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

A special feature of the VDP.GROSSEN LAGE® HERRENBERG is its soils. While Bunter sandstone dominates the wine village Ungstein, this vineyard is based on highly calcareous loess-loam with good available water capacity. The south to southeast facing 32-hectare vineyard is protected from cold air influences on a foothill of the Haardt hills at 120 to 180 metres. Its slope is moderately steep with a 10 to 25 % gradient. The highest section is the “Kanzel” with up to four-metre high vineyard walls that project over the landscape.
