GOLDLOCH, Dorsheim | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The south facing VDP.GROSSE LAGE® GOLDLOCH lies well protected in the Trollbach Valley directly next to the GL PITTERMÄNNCHEN. Long sunshine duration and good availability of water provide ideal growth conditions. The steep slopes have a 15 to 55 percent gradient and are for the most part terraced. The GL GOLDLOCH covers 10 hectares between 140 and 210 metres a.s.l. The soil is rocky-gritty loam slope wash over rocky Upper Rotliegend conglomerate that is covered with a thin loam layer with abundant pebbles. Primarily Riesling grows in this GL. History: The Goldloch vineyard appears for the first time in the land cadastre in 1819, but was documented as “Am Loch” in 1756. There is only speculation about the addition “Gold” to the name. Discovery of gold, that the quality of the wine brought vintners gold, or the colour of the vineyard in the evening sun are all considered possibilities.
