HENKENBERG, Oberrotweil | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® HENKENBERG lies in the steepest part of the Henkenberg, a mountain ridge of volcanic origin located between Oberrrotweil and Burkheim. Weathered volcanic rock determines the soils here at 240 to 260 metres a.s.l. The soil is quite skeletal and examples of garnet gemstones can even be found. The HENKENBERG GL stretches from the southwest to the southeast and is not only warmed by long direct solar radiation, but also from Mediterranean winds that make their way from the Rhône to the Upper Rhine Plain through the Saône Valley. History: “Henken” means “to hang”. The name refers to the location of a gallows belonging to early rulers of the region.
