The “VDP eagle” is pleased to welcome a new member

From top talent to full membership in the VDP: Weingut Rings in the Pfalz

Since 1 June 2015, Weingut Rings in Freinsheim/Pfalz has been a new member of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter e.V. (VDP). At its annual meeting on 21 May 2015, the VDP.Pfalz decided to accept the estate into its ranks. The VDP.Pfalz now has a total of 26 member estates. In all, the VDP national association has 200 member estates.

In 2008, Steffen and Andreas Rings were accepted in the VDP’s five-year mentoring program for promising young wine-growers, “Spitzentalente” (top talent). According to VDP.Pfalz regional president, Hansjörg Rebholz: “They have fully utilized the opportunity, and with élan and  determination, they have converted their portfolio to conform with the VDP.CLASSIFICATION.”

In order to guarantee a constantly high level of top-quality products and estates, new members are only accepted after a stringent examination. Not only is continuous wine quality a decisive prerequisite for membership, but also a commitment to sustainable viticulture and the preservation of great sites – even though they are difficult to cultivate.

The brothers agree that an uncompromising quest for quality is first and foremost; everything else is secondary. In addition to their holdings in Freinsheim, they have purchased parcels in the finest sites of Ungstein and Kallstadt, where the wines produced from Riesling and Spätburgunder grapes unmistakably reflect their origin. In all, their vineyards are planted with 50 percent each red and white grape varieties. Painstaking manual labor in the vineyards is the basis for the dry and individualistic wines that bear the signature of the Rings brothers.
