VDP:What is so special about your winery?

Maximilian von Kunow: Our winery is a historic monastery from the 12^th century. Originally it was a moated castle of the Franconian King Ardulf. Also worth seeing, is our extensive park with historic trees and the old vaulted cellar with 42 traditional Fuder barrels. The winery has been run by our family since 1803 and is now in the 7^th generation. We are proud owners of 2.85 hectares in the world-famous SCHARZHOFBERGER vineyard. Two monopole vineyards also belong to the winery: the HÜTTE and the HÖRECKER!

VDP:What is your winery philosophy?

Maximilian von Kunow: Close to nature in all respects!

VDP:For what wine style do you strive?

Maximilian von Kunow: The single-vineyard wines are matured in old Fuder barrels. We prefer dry, off-dry and semi-sweet Rieslings that are fermented spontaneously with wild yeasts that enjoy prolonged contact with the lees.

VDP:Which of your wines would you recommend to someone who does not yet know your winery – as an introduction, so to speak?

Maximilian von Kunow: Our VDP.GUTSWEIN Riesling Kabinett.

VDP: Of which wine are you particularly proud?

Maximilian von Kunow: Of our Riesling Auslese wines!

VDP:Why did you become a vintner?

Maximilian von Kunow: Out of conviction. It has always been my dream to take over the winery from my father.

VDP:Do you have role models or mentors?

Maximilian von Kunow: Several: Wolf Dietrich Salwey, Dr. Manfred Prüm and Egon Müller.

VDP:What are your next goals?

Maximilian von Kunow: To make our winery even better known internationally and nationally than it already is!

VDP: How do you combine tradition and innovation?

Maximilian von Kunow: For me, the old way of vinifying wines in the classic Saar style unites tradition and innovation.

VDP:Why should people visit your winery?

Maximilian von Kunow: It lies in the heart of the Saar-Lor-Lux region – famed as a culinary paradise!
