VDP: What is so special about your winery?
Johannes Arnold: In the cellar we grow wine in granite barrels, in the vineyard we also grow the grape variety "Gelber Sylvaner". The rooms for grape processing and wine growing have been newly and modernly constructed from 2014 to 2016. I am also a teacher for winegrowers and wine technologists and teach owners and employees of wineries in China in natural and organic viticulture and modern cellar management.

VDP: What is your winery philosophy?
Johannes Arnold: We do not see our winery as a pure production site, because we do not see wine as a mere sales object - it is an expression of our philosophy of life. For us, wine is not only a drink, but also an expression of culture, joie de vivre and style. We want to live not only through wine, but also with it! This can be seen in the special treatment we give to the vines in the vineyard and the wine in the cellar.
VDP: What style of wine do you strive for?
Johannes Arnold: We like dry, varietal, terroir-influenced wines. Our favourite grape variety is the "Gelber Sylvaner".

VDP: Which of your wines would you recommend to someone who does not yet know your winery - as a start, so to speak?
Johannes Arnold: 2017 Iphöfer Kalb Gelber Sylvaner trocken VDP.ERSTE LAGE®.
VDP: Which wine are you particularly proud of?
Johannes Arnold: 2013 Rödelseer Schwanleite Spätburgunder trocken VDP.ERSTE LAGE®.
VDP: Why did you become a winemaker?
Johannes Arnold: Because I was involved in the company's processes from an early age, the decision to learn the trade was anything but difficult. Especially during my apprenticeship I learned to appreciate and love the profession.

"YOU GET OUR WINES MAINLY IN THE BOCKSBEUTEL - IN THE NEWLY DESIGNED BOCKSBEUTEL PS."
VDP: Do you have a role model?
Johannes Arnold: My teacher and now fatherly friend Armin Störrlein from the Störrlein Winery in Randersacker.
VDP: What are your next goals?
Johannes Arnold: Expansion of the vineyard area, further profiling of the Silvaner.
VDP: How do you combine tradition and innovation?
Johannes Arnold: We rely on traditional Franconian grape varieties. Our wines are mainly available in the Bocksbeutel - in the newly designed "Bocksbeutel PS".
VDP: Why should one still visit your winery?
Johannes Arnold: We have a collection of old, rare wine growing equipment, which the unfortunately now deceased senior boss has collected over the decades.
