GLÖCK, Nierstein | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® GLÖCK is located on the south end of the Roter Hang in a south to southeast exposition. The 2.1-hectare vineyard is not significantly marked by the typical red clayey slate of the region, but rather by light loess loam soils and sandy, clayey loam. It lies between 90 and 130 metres a.s.l. and has a moderate slope of 30 percent. The GLÖCK GL nears the Rhine River in the east, which enhances solar radiation through reflection from the water. In addition to this it is nestled in the slope and protected from wind. The old walls that surround the site store warmth, which benefits the vines. The GLÖCK GL is planted mostly with Riesling. History: The GLÖCK GL is among the oldest vineyards in Germany. The site was first mentioned in a deed of donation in the year 742. It was likely named after the bell of the mountain chapel St. Killian that lies at its foot.
